If you have ever felt like you are working in a vacuum, you are not alone. Running a creative studio involves so much more than just making art. It requires navigating the business side of things, from technical SEO to the emotional rollercoaster of staying motivated.

I love helping artists and designers move from overthinking to doing. My mentoring is about sharing my experiences, from my 20 year background in IT to my journey specialising in surface design, to help you navigate your own. I provide surface design mentoring across Australia via online sessions, as well as in person meetings for those local to me in Brisbane. I understand the reality of balancing a creative career with a busy life. I personally juggle family time, my own studies, and a part time job alongside my design business. We focus on building your creative confidence and providing a professional sounding board to help you reach your goals while managing all the pieces of your life.
How can mentoring help me progress in my creative business?
Many designers reach a point where they feel they are stuck. Having a professional guide who has walked the path before you will help you move from that state of overwhelm into a clear plan of action. Having a mentor helps you build the resilience needed to take the next professional step, whether that is a career change or a brand refresh.
Do I need a mentor who specialises in surface design mentoring in Australia?
While my core expertise lies in surface design and repeat patterns, the guidance I provide covers the universal foundations of running a successful creative business. I find that whether you are a digital illustrator or a maker creating physical products, the challenges of organising a portfolio, managing a workflow, and finding your professional voice are very similar. I share the lessons I have learned to help you find your unique professional path.
Why is getting started the hardest part of a creative business?
It is often said that the secret of getting ahead is getting started, and this is a core philosophy in my mentoring. Often the biggest barrier is not a lack of skill, but the overwhelming number of choices we have to make. We get stuck in the research phase or wait for the perfect moment to launch a website or contact a client.

I share my experiences to help you break through that initial paralysis. By identifying your one hard thing and prioritising your tasks, we turn that daunting start into a series of small, manageable steps. Getting ahead does not require a giant leap. It just requires the confidence to take the first step, and I am here to be your cheerleader as you do.
What kind of technical guidance do you provide for designers and makers?
Rather than simply solving a one off problem, I provide guidance and upskilling in the tools and systems you use every day. We look at the business side of things through a logical lens. This includes:
Sharing how to make your website more visible to your ideal audience.
Guidance on creating a user friendly site.
Developing your own physical product lines.
Setting up your portfolio.
Why is accountability so important for artists and illustrators?
Isolation is often the biggest hurdle for creatives. The Accountability Collective provides a supportive space to share the emotional side of running a business.
I act as your cheerleader and provide the external nudge needed to stay on track.
Learning from the challenges and wins of other designers in a small, intimate group.
Breaking down your aspirations into a realistic plan that respects your energy levels.
Is it possible to use a grant for professional development mentoring?
Yes, and I am happy to share my experience in this area to help you. Many artists use professional development grants for mentoring. I provide the clear deliverables and documentation required by grant providers. This ensures you can meet your outcomes while receiving the guidance and support needed to upskill your business and move forward with your creative vision.
Should I choose One on One Mentoring or the Accountability Collective?
Deciding how you want to be supported depends on your current season of business and your learning style.
One on One Mentoring
These are private, deep dive sessions focused exclusively on your goals. It is ideal if you have a one hard thing you want to tackle, such as a website overhaul or starting a product line. These sessions offer the highest level of personalised guidance.
The Accountability Collective
This is a small group environment with a maximum of 5 people. It focuses on consistent momentum. It is an affordable way to access ongoing support and provides a mix of monthly challenges and the people contact that helps combat studio isolation.
How do I start a mentoring journey with Loopla?
If you are based in Brisbane, we can meet in person near Annerley. Otherwise, we can meet online via Google Meet. Before we meet, I will ask you to fill out a short questionnaire. This allows me to understand where you are currently at and what you want to achieve. It means I can properly prepare for our session and provide you with the most relevant information and guidance from the moment we start.
For all online sessions, I provide a recording so you can simply be present in the conversation and revisit my guidance whenever you need a boost.
Let's get started on your creative goals
If you are ready to stop overthinking and start making progress with your business, I would love to support you. Whether you need a one on one deep dive or the steady motivation of our small group, I am here to help you navigate the next steps.
